Tabitha James Kraan 4 in 1 Contioner (Golden Citrus) Review

Tabitha1

I love multi-tasking products, so I was really excited when I saw this 4 in 1 Contioner on I Am Natural Store. The brand claims that this product can be used as a traditional conditioner, a nourishing scalp cream, a leave-in conditioner and a high performance styling tool.

This is my first product from Tabitha James Kraan, and I bought the trial 60ml size. Tabitha James Kraan (let’s call the brand TJK from now on!) is a London-based label that focuses on organic haircare. Its eponymous founder, some research revealed, believes in reducing the use of harsh cleansers and using organic oils to nourish the hair and scalp. Her star product is her dry shampoo (available in two shades for dark and fair hair). According to her website, she advocates ’employing her organic dry shampoo as part of a cunning care routine, stretching the time between shampoos, and allowing the hair to enjoy the enviable rewards of regained natural equilibrium – high gloss, bounce and healthy body.’ I’m now really curious to try her dry shampoos, but I’ll try not to digress too much and talk about her conditioner instead!

Ingredients:

Avena Sativa (Aqua & Oat Kernel)*,Argania Spinosa (Argan Oil)*,Rosa Canina (Rosehip Oil)*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut Oil)*, Cetrimonium Chloride (Vegetable), Cocos Nucifera (Cetyl Alcohol), Glyceryl Stearate (from Glycine Max), Propanediol (from Zea Mays), Salix Alba (White Willow), Citric Acid, Citrus Bergamia (Bergamot)*,Citrus Reticulate (Tangerine)*,Citrus Aurantium (Neroli)*,Citrus Reticulate (Green Mandarin)*,Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree)*,Commiphora Myrrha (Myrrh)*,Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender)*,Citrus Aurantium (Petitgrain)*,Cananga Odorata (Ylang Ylang)*,(Citral, Geraniol, Citronellol, Linalool, Limonene) – naturally occurring components of essential oils) * = Certified Organic ingredient

The list of ingredients is excellent. It’s 92% certified organic, and in a world where a number of ‘organic brands’ contain less than 60% organic ingredients, this is really impressive. It goes without saying that there are no questionable ingredients like silicones, parabens and sulfates in this formula!

Texture and Smell:

For a natural product, it’s got a very spreadable texture. Unlike a lot of natural conditioners without silicone, this actually feels like conditioner. I find that this works better as a leave-in than a rinse-out conditioner. I feel that I need much more product if I am rinsing it out. If I use it on towel-dried hair, I just need one pump (bear in mind that I have short boy hair, so if you have long, luxuriant hair, you’ll need a few pumps).

The smell reminds me of lemon balm or verbena. It’s fresh, in a natural citrus/herbal way. I find it very unisex and uplifting.

Verdict:

This is a great leave-in conditioner. I feel that it defines the curls in my wavy hair without any greasiness, so this will work very well on naturally curly/wavy hair. I have been experiencing a bit of flakiness on my scalp, and while this hasn’t exacerbated the condition, it hasn’t really got rid of it. I like how my hair feels after I use it as a rinse out conditioner, but I need a lot more product if I use it this way. As a styling product, it leaves a healthy gloss when I use it on dry hair. Overall, it’s a very versatile product I’d most likely repurchase.

Where to buy:

I purchased mine from I Am Natural Store for a very reasonable A$18 (60ml).

I really hope the beauty gods are kind to me and I get to try  TJK’s Dry Shampoo for Darker Hair soon!
