MUN Skincare: Akwi Purifying Cleanser, Anarose Hydrating Rose Toner and Aknari Brightening Youth Serum

Very rarely do I instantly fall in love with a brand. Usually, most brands have products I love and products I don’t, but MUN has surpassed all my expectations with their tightly-edited, beautifully-formulated, exquisitely-packaged line of skincare. Their face line comprises three products: a cleanser, toner and serum – and I love all three products equally. These products work very well together, and it’s one of the few instances where I’d highly recommend using the entire line to reap the full benefits. These products have a minimalist feel to them, and every ingredient is carefully chosen to serve a specific purpose.

Created by makeup artist Munemi Imai and fair-trade advocate Anas Saidi, MUN uses time-tested ingredients from Morocco to nurture and nourish the skin. All products are designed to suit most skin types, from very dry to sensitive to very oily. I’ve been using these products regularly for over two months, and it has never broken out my combination, acne-prone skin.

Akwi Purifying Cleanser: This gentle yet effective cleanser removes dirt, makeup, sunscreen and impurities in one easy step. It’s almost like a hybrid oil and water-based cleanser (for reference, the texture is similar to Su-Man’s cleanser, which utilises a similar concept). The texture is not too runny and has a nice grip to it, which makes it great for a face massages. You are meant to use a few pumps of this on dry skin, massage it in and rinse it off with a warm washcloth (their washcloth is just perfect, and I can’t recommend it highly enough – they sent me one, but I need to get more of these stat). The wonderful thing about this cleanser is that you can get away with a single cleanse, even if you’re wearing waterproof makeup or heavy sunscreen. This is perfect for lazy evenings when you just can’t be bothered to double cleanse and want to take your day off without any fuss.

Akwi has a spicy Yuzu scent (a nod to Munemi’s Japanese heritage perhaps?) that I enjoy. Unlike many other natural cleansers, Akwi is perfect for the eye area and doesn’t cause even the slightest stinging or irritation (if anything, it feels really soothing). Love it!

Anarose Hydrating Rose Toner: This is a really lovely toner with a soft rose/daisy/jasmine scent. Once again, it takes a multi-pronged approach to skincare and contains hyaluronic acid to hydrate and willow bark to exfoliate and prevent breakouts. It feels more viscous and hydrating than most mists, and if it didn’t have a pump, I’d have mistaken it for an Asian essence.

MUN recommends applying this with a cotton pad, and I do find that this approach helps exfoliate and remove any dirt/makeup that my cleanser didn’t remove. It feels cooling and nourishing, and I follow the cotton pad application with a couple of generous spritzes for an extra boost of hydration. Anarose Toner provides the perfect base for the Aknari Brightening Youth Serum, and allows it to penetrate deeper into the skin.

Aknari Brightening Youth Serum: A triumph in minimalism, this oil-serum contains just three ingredients: prickly pear seed oil, argan oil and rose oil. The rose scent is very robust, and if you love rose, you’ll love this product. This oil absorbs instantly and doesn’t leave a residue. This serum is supposed to brighten the skin, and while I haven’t noticed any visible brightening effects, it moisturises really well without overloading the skin. You just need a few drops of this product, so it will, despite the seemingly small bottle, last you a very long time.

Final Thoughts: I’m so glad I discovered this line. All the products are well-made with a lot of care and precision. The ingredients are all high quality, and I’d highly recommend it for all skin types.
