Lately, I’ve been feeling a little disoriented. I don’t really know why, but I just feel like everything around me is in a state of flux. I started a new role at work a couple of months ago, and the challenges associated with that, combined with changes in my living arrangements and friendship circles have left me feeling a little confused. Everything is new again. I am developing new connections, and while that’s great, I do miss the comfort of the familiar.
I have been following small daily rituals to create a semblance of stability within this state of flux. Whether it be using the same fragrance every morning (Julisis L’elixir Du Jour) or winding down with a cup of Sun Potion He Shou Wu latte every night, small routines have been helping me feel like I have my act together (even when I don’t!). Since I received my advance Beauty Heroes box last month, I’ve added Max and Me Circle of Protection to my growing list of rituals. I find its sweet, now-familiar scent a great way to end a long day.
As the name suggests, there is something really comforting (almost meditative) about this oil. It doesn’t smell meditative in the traditional sense, in that it doesn’t smell like incense or sandalwood. Instead, Circle of Protection has an almost comforting sweetness that inspires in me a feeling of calm and relaxation. Like most Max and Me products, it smells pure and unadulterated. You can almost judge the quality of the ingredients purely by the smell.
This golden-hued body oil has a nice slip and moisturises really well. The ingredients are better than what many other brands use in their face oils (the base is a mix of argan, rosehip and marula oils), and you really are getting your money’s worth. I personally love the elfin packaging, and the purple rhinestone on the cap is a nice touch.
Usually, Beauty Heroes offers a different hero and sidekick every month. This month’s sidekick, however, is a ‘companion-sized’ travel bottle of Circle of Protection (along with a sample vial of Max and Me’s Enchanted Face Oil). The idea behind this is that you can share the companion-sized bottle with a friend or loved one. It’s a physical token of protection you can offer someone to wish them well. I gave mine to one of my colleagues who just found out she is pregnant. She was looking for a body oil, and I couldn’t think of a better way to wish her a safe pregnancy.
May’s Max and Me beauty discovery is valued at $95 (USD). You get it for around $38 by subscribing to Beauty Heroes!
